NOLL Scores Major Victory with Nonprofit Designation

Brecksville, OH (January 17, 2024) – The Northern Ohio Lacrosse League (NOLL) is thrilled to announce its official recognition as a 501c3 nonprofit organization by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This landmark achievement unlocks significant benefits for the league, allowing it to expand its reach and impact within the community, particularly for young athletes.

"Earning 501c3 status is a game-changer for the NOLL," says Brian Miller, president of the League. "It strengthens our foundation and opens doors to new funding opportunities, enabling us to provide more community outreach, invest in education, and keep league participation fees affordable for local communities. Ultimately, this means more kids can enjoy the positive benefits of lacrosse, regardless of where in the Cleveland area they live."

Nonprofit status offers several advantages for youth sports leagues like the NOLL:

  • Increased fundraising opportunities: Donations to 501(c)(3) organizations are tax-deductible, making it more attractive for individuals and businesses to support the league's mission.
  • Grant eligibility: Many public and private grants are exclusively available to nonprofits, providing crucial funding for equipment, program development, and scholarships.

  • Enhanced community partnerships: Nonprofits can forge stronger relationships with local organizations, schools, and government agencies, opening doors for collaboration and shared resources.

  • Greater transparency and accountability: As a nonprofit, the NOLL is subject to stricter financial oversight and reporting requirements, ensuring responsible use of all donated funds.

"Lacrosse is not just a sport," says Eric Werner, a NOLL vice-president and Brunswick coach. "It teaches kids teamwork, discipline, and resilience. It instills values that stay with them on and off the field. Now, with our nonprofit status, we can ensure even more children have the chance to experience these life-changing lessons."

Furthermore, the league's nonprofit status reinforces its commitment to transparency and accountability. NOLL will adhere to strict governance standards, ensuring that all funds raised are utilized for the betterment of the lacrosse programs, player development, and community engagement initiatives.
